Agropoli
Latest update: 29 January 2024
The coastal town of Agropoli is the gateway to the Cilento region and by some distance its most populous town with around 22,000 permanent residents.
A popular seaside resort, it lies at the northern extreme of the region, facing out on to the Tyrrhenian Sea and just a short distance south of the famous archaeological site of Paestum. All of these factors work in combination to add to the overall lustre of Agropoli. |

The town's visitors attracted not only by its beaches but by its multiple accommodation options which make it an ideal base from which to explore the Cilento National Park, its coast and the aforementioned Paestum.
The town itself is vibrant with a good mix of age-groups and plenty of choice in terms of dining, shopping and sightseeing. The most famous sight is the Aragonese/Angevin castle which sits on a hill and affords some wonderful views of the town and its attractive marina area. The old town that surrounds the castle is full of charm with narrow, stone walkways interspersed with some enticing restaurants, bars and cafès serving local cuisine and of course fresh fish dishes.
