​The city of Catanzaro is the capital city of the Province of Catanzaro with a population of 89,065 inhabitants.

​Although not the most populous city in the region (Reggio Calabriahas around 180,00), Catanzaro is also the capital of Calabria and has been since 1970.

​The city sits in an elevated position, 342 metres above sea level and is characterised by a huge bridge: Ponte Morandi which forms part of the city's complex road system.
