Path of the Gods
Latest update: 2 February 2024
One of the most popular activities along the Amalfi Coast is the wonderful "Path of the Gods" (Sentiero degli Dei in Italian).
This also happens to be one of the most famous hiking routes in the whole of Italy and it's easy to understand why, given the fantastic panoramas. The main path stretches from the hamlet of Nocelle which is situated high above Positano (and reachable from there on foot) across the Colle la Serra to Bomerano. |
|
The whole route lasts around two hours and passes through a lush, green hillside with scattered vineyards along the way. Although the path is well maintained and clearly marked, there are some sections that vertigo-sufferers will struggle with so tread carefully if you feel there's a risk of that.

How to get to the Path of the Gods
Most people start from Nocelle, either walking up from Positano or taking the bus, but you can also start from Bomerano and walk to Nocelle. Whichever of these options you take, you'll find bus connections at the end to take you where you need to go.
From Amalfi you can take the 5080 bus to the Agerola (Bomerano) stop, a journey of 40 minutes. Then from there to the start of the path is a walk of 650 metres which should take about 7 minutes. If you end the walk at Nocelle and don't choose to come back the same way, you can take a Mobility Amalfi Coast bus from Nocelle down to Positano which takes about twenty five minutes.
From Positano it's best to take the Mobility Amalfi Coast bus up to Nocelle (25 minutes). You can then walk the Path of the Gods to Bomerano and make your way back by a combination of buses, or walk back along the path and take the first bus you took, back to Positano.
If you choose to take the bus from Bomerano to Positano, you will first need to take the 5080 to Amalfi (40 minutes), followed by the 5070 to Positano Chiesa Nuova (or Positano Sponda if that's closer to your destination), which takes 40 to 50 minutes.
