In our Amalfi Coast One Day Itinerary we concentrated on the main sights of the western section of the Amalfi Coast Road but with our two day itinerary we're going to also include the eastern section which offers surprises and beauty in abundance.
So let's assume you're staying somewhere close to Sorrento, you've got a car for two days and you want to spend one evening in a hotel somewhere on the Amalfi Coast before returning to Sorrento the following night. That being the case you can use our Amalfi Coast One Day Itinerary for everything up to and including the point when you reach Ravello. Instead of then returning to Sorrento you could have dinner in Ravello and find a hotel either in Ravello, down on the coast in Amalfi or somewhere close by, ready for day two.
Once you've left your hotel in the morning you need to head back on the main Amalfi Coast Road and continue east with your first stop of the day the delightful town of Minori. From Amalfi to Minori takes twenty minutes in the car and depending on where you spent the night there's a good chance that you passed the gorgeous Atrani along the way. Minori deserves a walk-around so park the car and wander the pretty town centre with its church, main piazza and beach before continuing on to Maiori which is located just around the next bay.
Let's say you spent no more than an hour in Minori and left your hotel at 09:00 so by the time you reach Maiori it'll be around 10:30. You've probably earned a mid-morning coffee by now so you could walk along Maiori's promenade and find a nice spot to watch the world go by and perhaps walk back to the car via the beach.
From Maiori continue east and your next port of call is the quiet, unassuming beach resort of Erchie. It's just a small place but definitely worth a visit with its lovely beach and laid-back atmosphere.
After visiting Erchie it's only a very short drive to the fishing village of Cetara and this would be the ideal place for lunch. Cetara is famous for its anchovies but don't worry if you don't like them, there are plenty of restaurants serving a wide variety of dishes. You can visit the beach there which is overlooked by a fort and enjoy a walk along the main thoroughfare with its shops and bars. This section of the Amalfi Coast has a much more Italian feel to it with most international visitors spending their time between Positano, Amalfi and Ravello.
From Cetara to Vietri sul Mare is a short drive of around 15 minutes and this will be your final stop and visit of the day. By the time you reach Vietri it'll be around 16:00 so you can have a fairly leisurely stop there of around 3 hours. There's a nice beach area but most importantly a thriving ceramics industry so as you wind your way around the main narrow streets of the town centre you'll find countless examples of the extraordinary ceramics and if you have the time, a museum dedicated to it.
Depending on how long you choose to spend in Vietri sul Mare it'll be early evening by the time you leave. There are then two routes back to Sorrento, the fastest one is on main roads where you don't see much and it takes around an hour so we advise taking the scenic route back the way you came and seeing the coast from a different angle. The scenic route from Vietri sul Mare to Sorrento takes around 2 hours but is well worth it and by the end of these two days you'll have seen as much of the Amalfi Coast that 48 hours will allow you.
