There are two main functions to Marina Piccola - its eastern side is Sorrento's main transport hub for any sea travel.
From here you can take ferries to the islands of Ischia and Capri, the cities of Naples and Salerno as well as towns along the Amalfi Coast including Positano and Amalfi. Then just a short walk to the west brings you to its more leisurely side where you'll find an array of Sorrento Beach Clubs, the areas of decking from which you can enter the sea. |

At some point during your stay in Sorrento it's likely that you'll need or want to pass through this area so here I'll explain how to get to and from its main facilities.
From Piazza Tasso: From here you have 3 options to get to Marina Piccola. If you're feeling energetic and don't have suitcases to carry you can take the most direct route and walk down the steep steps to Via Luigi di Maio which is the main road down to the port. If you'd prefer to avoid the steps and walking along the main road, turn left (if facing the sea) and follow the main road that curves right and down the hill towards Piazza Sant'Antonino.
Keep following this road as it curves to the left and you eventually reach the Villa Comunale Park. Enter the park and walk to your left where you'll find a lift (costs €1 per person) which will take you down to sea level. When you leave the lift complex turn right, walk for 5 minutes and you'll arrive at the transport area of the marina. The other option from Piazza Tasso is to take a taxi but please be aware this can be more expensive than you'd think.
On arrival at Marina Piccola: If you arrive in Sorrento by sea you'll be faced with almost the same options reverse but taking a bus from here becomes a realistic option (you've got much more chance of finding a seat as the buses start and finish their routes here), whereas the steps that lead to Piazza Tasso are much more of a consideration going up than down!
So just to clarify you can choose from:
Option 1 - Bus (cheap and ideal if you have luggage)
Option 2 - Walk/lift. Walk off the pier and turn right towards Leonelli's Beach and follow the pathway showing directions to the lift ("ascensore" in Italian), for about 5 minutes. After you take the lift you'll find yourself in Villa Comunale Park which is a 6 minute walk to Piazza Tasso.
Option 3 - Walk/stairs. Really not recommended if you have any kind of luggage and the only real benefit is that you save €1 per person on the lift. Take the lift ;-)
Option 4 - Taxi
