The castles of Naples provide some of the most fascinating days out the city can offer and a glimpse into its storied past.
There are three magnificent castles in Naples where you can walk around the grounds, look at historic artefacts, soak up the medieval atmosphere or gaze out across the city from great vantage points. The Castel dell'Ovo is so-named because legend has it that Roman poet Virgil buried an egg in the foundations and if that edge was ever to break, Naples would fall. The two other castles: Castel Sant'Elmo and Castel Nuovo are also very much worth a visit while the Castel Capuano is currently closed to the public. |
