Valley of the Mills
Latest update: 2 February 2024
The Valle dei Mulini or 'Valley of the Mills' can be found behind Piazza Tasso near the Hotel Antiche Mura.
Two ancient rivers formed the valley which has a saw mill and flour mill that date back to the 10th century. The valley is now abandoned and overgrown with vegetation including Phillitus Vulgaris, a rare fern. |

In 1866, Piazza Tasso was built, isolating the valley from the sea. This created a humid environment and the subsequent rising damp brought the end of the mills.
The valley can only be viewed from above - next to the hotel Antiche Mura there's an area from which you can look down. It's a sheer drop and can cause a bit of dizziness for vertigo sufferers so just tread carefully.
