The main ferry ports in the Gulf of Naples are bustling, busy harbours which transport millions of people every year.
Whether those people are locals or tourists, the ferries provide an integral element to the local transport infrastructure. In Naples itself there are three main ports including Naples Beverello from where you can take a hydrofoil or ferry to Ischia, Capri, Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast. Beverello is also the cruise ship port of Naples and is just a short walk from the city centre's main attractions. |
Of the two other main ports in Naples, Porta di Massa is used for car ferries with connections to Ischia, Capri, Salerno and Sicily, while Naples Mergellina port is only used by the foot-passenger hydrofoils which cross to Ischia, Procida and Sicily.
Just outside Naples is the port of Pozzuoli; it benefits from being away from Naples city centre and is therefore less busy, plus its closer proximity to the islands of Ischia and Procida make for shorter crossing times. Pozzuoli is particularly popular with motorists who are taking their car across to one of the islands.
