The archaeological area known as Neapolis Sotterrata was once the Macellum of Naples, the historic marketplace. The site actually predates Roman history as it was used by the Greeks as their Agora (Forum) as far back as the 5th century BC.
Access to the site is via the Basilica di San Lorenzo Maggiore and it should not be confused with the nearby Napoli Sotterranea. |
