The Belvedere San Martino is a panoramic viewpoint in Naples from which you can get the very best views of the city. From here you can see the whole city sprawled out before you with the historic Spaccanapoli and dramatic backdrop of Mount Vesuvius.
The Belvedere is right outside the Castel Sant'Elmo and the Certosa di San Martino making for an ideal combination visit. |
A staircase leads up and down between Belvedere San Martino and the Quartieri Spagnoli down by the city centre. The staircase is quite steep so it makes most sense to make your way to the Vomero district where the above sights are all located first, by public transport. You can take the Line 1 of the Metro to the Vanvitelli stop in the centre of Vomero from where it's a 13 minute walk to the Belvedere.
An alternative to the Belvedere San Martino is the Terrazza di Sant'Antonio although it's a little harder to reach as it's further from Naples city centre.
