The town of Meta lies just 5 km from the centre of Sorrento and although it rather lives in the shadow of its illustrious neighbour, it's well worth a visit and has a lot to offer. The town is split into two distinct areas, an upper and lower part and it's the lower part where most of its visitors head towards.
Here you'll find several beaches and some rocky coves, the kind that you'd expect to see on the Amalfi Coast. The beach area is well stocked with bars and restaurants and with its azure water it's a great alternative to the crowds in and around Sorrento. |

What's the best way to reach Meta?
Meta is on the same train line as Sorrento (the Circumvesuviana), and just 3 stops away with a journey time of 7 minutes. However, with Meta's train station situated in the upper part of the town, it can be a bit of a walk down to the beaches.
Therefore a good option is to take the bus. From the bus stop outside the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria on Piazza Tasso there's a bus every 20 minutes to Meta Alimuri which is the beach area and where the bus line terminates.
