Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo Anacapri
Latest update: 1 February 2024
The Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo is one of the principal sights of Anacapri. Situated on Piazza San Nicola, it's famous particularly for its incredible ceramic floor made up of Majolica tiles.
The Baroque church was originally constructed in 1719 while the floor was created by Leonardo Chianese around 1760. Visitors to the church can view the floor from a wooden platform that skirts around its edge as understandably, it's forbidden to walk on it directly. There's also a spiral staircase that leads to a balcony from where the floor can be viewed from above. Another room in the church is a permanent exhibition of religious artefacts. To reach the church from Piazza Vittoria, cross the road and wander down the slight hill past the shops and restaurants before turning right on to Via San Nicola. |
