The Quartieri Spagnoli is one of the most historic neighbourhoods in Naples. It occupies the area west of the city's main shopping thoroughfare, Via Toledo and below the hill leading up to Vomero.
This residential district was created by the ruling Spanish in the 16th century as an area in which to house their soldiers. It is from this period that it takes its name: translating as Spanish District. |
