Villa Damecuta
Latest update: 1 February 2024
Now standing as little more than ruins, Villa Damecuta was once one of the 12 Roman Villas of Capri in the days of the Emperor Tiberius.
Visiting the site these days the once palatial splendour is well hidden by weeds and crumbling stone but as you walk around the grounds it's easy to understand why the Emperor chose the position. One of the most intact buildings is a medieval watch-tower and from that point you can gaze across the sea to the neighbouring island of Ischia. To reach Villa Damecuta you must first make your way to the centre of Anacapri and from there use the winding streets through the town centre, following the signs to the Blue Grotto and to Villa Damecuta itself. There's also a bus which runs every half an hour and has "Grotta Azzurra" written on the front. |
