Marina Grande is located on the northern side of the island and is probably the place where you will land when you arrive on Capri for the first time.
The most important function of Marina Grande is to get people to and from the island and it is here that you'll find the ferry and hydrofoil ports that connect Capri to mainland locations such as Naples, Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi or to the neighbouring island of Ischia. |
Being the main travel hub on the island you'll find there's a taxi rank and a bus station as well as the Funicular Railway station which carries visitors up to the attractions of Capri Town and its Piazzetta.

It not only houses the biggest public beach on the island, but is also historically relevant as it was an ancient fishing port for the Romans, and the first place in Campania where the Greeks arrived. Some of the most famous beaches on the Island are close by such as the homonymous Marina Grande Beach and the Bagni di Tiberio.
Apart from Marina Grande's use for travel purposes it's also a great place to watch the world go by with dozens of bars and restaurants facing out to sea and all the fascinating comings and goings of a busy port. It also provides some of the most spectacular backdrops on the island such as the view from Villa Lysis or from Villa San Michele in Anacapri.
