Corso Italia
Latest update: 2 February 2024
Corso Italia is one of the most important roads in Sorrento and one that you're likely to encounter during any visit. It's most famous for being a busy shopping street where you'll also find a selection of bars and restaurants. Part of the road was recently pedestrianised which makes it a haven for shoppers and it particularly comes alive during the evenings when locals and visitors alike take their passeggiata.

The road is split into three distinct parts which is even more in evidence since the pedestrianisation. Visitors arriving at Sorrento's train station can walk from there to the town centre until they reach the bustling Piazza Tasso . This section of the road isn't fully pedestrianised but it is a ZTL (Controlled Traffic Zone) where cars can only pass at certain times or with certain permissions such as a resident's pass for example.
Piazza Tasso is what you might describe as the middle section of Corso Italia then once you cross Piazza Tasso you're into the fully pedestrianised section that contains Sorrento Cathedral and from where you can head into the fascinating web of streets such as Via San Cesareo.
