Ferry Tickets & Timetables Between Sorrento & Ischia
Latest update: 2 February 2024
The ferry tickets and timetables between Sorrento and Ischia for 2023 will be updated shortly. During the summer months, typically from the beginning of April to the end of October, it's possible to take a hydrofoil from Sorrento to Ischia for a day trip.
With some variations depending on day of the week and time of year, there are either one or two crossings each way between the destinations. The hydrofoil crossings are provided by the Alilauro company with the arrival and departure point in Sorrento being Marina Piccola. The port used on the island of Ischia is that of its main town: Ischia Porto. |

The word hydrofoil can sometimes be a source of confusion; the boats are not always what we may think of as being a hydrofoil with the large skis, but are often a catamaran-type shape or sometimes just a regular ferry. The word used for the boats in Italian is "aliscafo" or "aliscafi" in plural but in English they are often described as fast ferries as well as hydrofoils.
It's important to note that these crossings are for foot passengers only; there is no space on board for any vehicles.
Between April and October there's a single departure from Sorrento to Ischia each morning but the departure time changes depending the day of the week. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays the departure time is 09:10 and the hydrofoil stops first at Procida (arriving 10:10) before it reaches Ischia. On the remaining days of the week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays), the departure time from Sorrento is 09:30. The arrival time in Ischia Porto is always 10:30, regardless of the day of the week.
From the start of April to the end of September (and therefore for a shorter period than the schedules above), there is also an afternoon departure from Sorrento to Ischia. This crossing leaves Marina Piccola in Sorrento at 15:50, arriving in Ischia at 16:50.
